About The Fund

Philip and Gwen Brereton

The Brereton Memorial Fund was founded in memory of Philip and Gwen Brereton who died in December 2000

Throughout their lives they gave up much of their free-time to work as volunteers for the Incorporated Association of Organists, the Royal College of Organists and the Oldham Rochdale and Tameside Organists’ Association.

The IAO Annual Congress

For many years Philip and Gwen were well known as the Organisers of the IAO Annual Congress

They worked to help youngsters discover organ and choral music and were especially keen to encourage British organists to explore organ building and organ music, in the UK, throughout Europe and beyond!

Aims of the Fund

The Brereton Memorial Fund Supports:

  • Music education projects

  • The teaching of the organ at all levels and ages

  • The nurturing of choral music and especially church music
